Privacy & data

Last updated: 30 May 2026

The short version

Little Finance Heroes is built for kids 7-12 and their grown-ups. We take privacy seriously — it's not just compliance, it's how we'd want our own children treated online.

Three principles guide every choice:

  • We never sell or share personal data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
  • Kids can play without an account. No login. No email. Progress lives on your device.
  • Grown-ups get the full picture. If a child uses an account, the parent owns it.

What we collect (and don't)

When you use the website without an account:
Tool progress, your goal entries, your badges, and your streak are stored in your browser's localStorage. That data never leaves your device. We don't see it. If you clear your browser, it's gone.

Analytics:
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count anonymous page visits — no cookies, no individual tracking, no third-party trackers. It tells us things like “200 people opened the Goal Planner today,” not “Lena from Rotterdam opened it.”

Interaction events:
We log a tiny anonymous event when a tool, game, lesson or story is opened (e.g. tool_open: goal-planner). Each event includes a random visitor-id stored only in your browser’s localStorage — never an email, never a name, never an IP. The id rotates if you clear your browser. Events are kept for 90 days so we can see which lessons are useful, then automatically deleted.

Newsletter:
If you sign up for our parent newsletter, we store your email address only to send you the weekly digest. You can unsubscribe with one click. We never share it.

If you create an account

Accounts are parent-owned. Children do not have accounts of their own. A parent (16+) registers with an email, and can create “kid profiles” under their account with a nickname (no real name needed) and age band (7-9, 10-12, 13-15) — no exact birth date stored.

How sign-in works: we use magic-link sign-in — you enter your email, we send a one-time link valid for 15 minutes. No password to remember, nothing for a child to misuse if they look over your shoulder. Your session lasts 30 days; you can sign out at any time on the account page.

What we store for an account:parent name + email + newsletter preference; per kid profile: nickname + age band; per kid: points earned and badges unlocked once we roll out server-side progress sync. That’s the lot.

COPPA & GDPR-K compliance

We follow the stricter of:

  • COPPA (US, under-13 rules) — no personal info collected from children
  • GDPR-K (EU, under-16 in NL) — explicit parental consent required before any data

Practically: we collect nothing from children unless a parent has explicitly registered and consented.

Third parties

We use a small number of trusted infrastructure providers:

  • Vercel — hosting and analytics. Data resides in the EU.
  • Upstash (via Vercel KV) — stores the account database (parent + kid profiles), the 90-day interaction-event log, and the lead-magnet form signups (email + first name) so the owner has a reliable record of who requested a free pack. EU region.
  • Resend — sends magic-link sign-in emails. The only data they ever see is the recipient address and the email body.
  • MailerLite — stores the parent-newsletter list if you opt in. Unsubscribe in one click from any email.
  • TransIP — domain registrar (no user data touches them).
  • Stan.store — handles paid product checkout when you click on a paid playbook. Their privacy policy covers that flow.

Your rights

If you live in the EU or UK you have the right to:

  • Access whatever data we have on you (which is almost nothing)
  • Have it deleted
  • Object to processing
  • File a complaint with your data authority

Email info@littlefinanceheroes.com and we'll respond within 7 days.

Cookies

We do not use marketing cookies. We do not use third-party cookies. Vercel Analytics uses zero cookies. The only thing we store on your device is your tool progress in localStorage — which is not a cookie and never sent to our server.

Changes

If we ever change this policy, the “last updated” date at the top changes. For significant changes, we'll email newsletter subscribers and post a notice on the homepage.
