When to start & how much
1 / 9
Lesson notes
Most families start pocket money around age 6–8 — when kids understand coins and can wait a week.
How much?
Choose by responsibility, not age. Rule of thumb: about €0.50–€1 per year of age, per week. Adjust it to what your child has to cover.
How to start?
- Give it on a fixed day (e.g. Saturday).
- Give coins, not a note — physical sticks.
- Allow mistakes: all on candy? That's the lesson.
Cash's rule: fixed, predictable and without judgment. Consistency wins.
