Money Hero Workbook · August
Money Hero Capstone
“Can you run a real little money system — and explain your choices?”
Before we start
Five minutes before Lesson 1, no scoring.
- 1. If your team had €20 to start a little project, what would you make?
- 2. What would you pay for first, and what could wait?
- 3. What would you keep aside in case something goes wrong?
Lesson 1. Plan the corner
Penny and Cash · 45 min · Build a €20 starting plan and explain priorities.
- Fill: repair __, cover __, buffer __, total __.
- Why can the sign wait?
- What is one free resource the team could reuse?
- Name each hero's role: Penny asks, Cash builds, Tally counts, Byte checks digital claims, Goldie helps reflect.
Lesson 2. Earn by helping
Penny · 45 min · Show that the corner earned money by making something people wanted and were happy to pay for, not by taking it from anyone.
- What are the total sales from 8 bookmarks at €2 each?
- After €4 of supplies, what is the bookmark profit?
- Why did the corner "earn" this money rather than just receive it?
- Name one other helpful way the team could earn for the corner.
Lesson 3. Needs before nice
Penny · 45 min · Sort a spending choice into a need and a want, and show why the need is funded before the nice-to-have.
- Which is a need and which is a want: the €8 cover or the €6 sign?
- Why should the cover come first?
- If only €6 were left, would you buy the €8 cover or the €6 sign — and what would you do?
- Name one fair way the team could still get a sign later.
Lesson 4. The buffer that saved the day
Cash · 45 min · Show that a small amount saved on purpose lets a plan survive a surprise without breaking.
- How much is the just-in-case buffer?
- A surprise crack needs a €2 fix — what is the balance after paying it from the buffer?
- What could have happened if there had been no buffer?
- Why should every plan keep a small buffer?
Final mission. Present the decision
Goldie and the team · 45 min · Communicate a balanced plan, one adaptation and a safety check.
- Present:
- What problem did you solve?
- Where did the €20 go?
- What changed after bookmark sales and book purchases?
- What surprise did you handle?
- How would you verify a suspicious “donate now” message?
- What would you improve next time?
Extension. Adapt without losing the truth
Tally and Byte · 45 min · Record sales, costs and the ending project balance accurately.
- Bookmark sales?
- Bookmark profit under the stated supply cost?
- Total project money received after sales?
- Total spent before the extra repair?
- Balance before and after €2 extra repair?
- What happened to the original €4 buffer when supplies were bought, and how can it be refilled?
Extension. Share the good
Cash · 45 min · Show that a team can give generously and still keep a safe budget when the giving is planned.
- What is the cost of 6 used books at €2 each?
- Starting from the €16 of sales, what is the balance after buying the books?
- Why does sharing the books help the whole community, not just one person?
- How can "we gave" and "we kept a safe budget" both be true here?
Extension. Borrow or wait?
Goldie · 45 min · Compare buying now with borrowed money against waiting and saving, and see the extra cost that borrowing can add.
- If the team borrows €6 and repays €8, what is the total repaid?
- What is the extra cost of borrowing?
- If they wait and save instead, what does the €6 rug cost them?
- For a nice-but-not-urgent rug, would you borrow or wait — and why?
Extension. The safe click
Byte · 45 min · Spot the warning signs in a rushed "donate now" message and choose a safe, checked way to accept real donations.
- Name two warning signs in the "donate now" message.
- Should the team tap the link — yes or no?
- What is a safe way to accept real donations instead?
- Write one thing about money you are now proud to be able to explain.
My money reflection
A quiet close to the year.
- The money skill I'm most proud of this year…
- One thing I'd plan differently next time…
- How I'd explain a good money choice to someone else…
Cut-out coins
Play money for the lessons and the mission — fictional, for practice only. Cut along the dashed circles; print one page per pair for extra coins.
